  • Honing Rod (Steel)

Method 1: Using a Sharpening Stone (Whetstone)

Step 1: Choose the Right Grit

  • Coarse Grit (200-400): For very dull knives.
  • Medium Grit (1000-1500): For regular sharpening.
  • Fine Grit (4000-8000): For polishing.

Step 2: Prepare the Stone

  • Soak the stone in water for 10-15 minutes or apply oil if using an oil stone.

Step 3: Sharpen the Knife

  • Hold the knife at a 15-20 degree angle to the stone.
  • Push the knife across the stone, using a sweeping motion.
  • Repeat 10-15 times on each side.
  • Use finer grit stones to polish the edge.

Step 4: Clean the Knife

  • Rinse the knife and dry it with a soft cloth.

Step 1: Hold the Rod

  • Hold the rod vertically with the tip on a stable surface.

Step 2: Hone the Knife

  • Hold the knife at a 15-20 degree angle to the rod.
  • Swipe the knife down the rod, alternating sides.
  • Do this 5-10 times per side.
