Kottayam: Kerala man held in US for shooting at pregnant wife | Kochi News

KOTTAYAM: Amal Reji, a native of Ettumanoor, Kottayam, was arrested for shooting his pregnant wife at the parking lot of a church in Chicago, the US, his relatives said.
Reji and his wife Meera Abraham, 32, a native of Uzhavoor near Pala, have been living in the US for six years. They have a four-year-old child.
A relative said Meera was three months pregnant.”We have been told by our relatives in the US that Meera had an abortion, but her condition is stable now,” the relative said.
Meera received multiple bullet shots in her abdomen and on chin, said the relative. As per the information received, there were some family issues between the couple, and they were talking them out in the car after church. Meera was rushed to the hospital while the police took Amal into custody. Meera’s health condition was critical on Tuesday due to excessive bleeding, said her relative. Meera’s twin sister is also living in the same locality with her family while Amal’s siblings – three brothers and one sister – are also settled in Chicago.
Last week, a Florida court had sentenced a Kottayam native to life imprisonment without parole for the gruesome murder of his wife, also from the district, in 2020.
