Indian-origin man jailed for a rival gang-inspired fight in Singapore hotel

An Indian-origin man Sharvin Jay Nair, was sentenced for more than a year and ordered to pay a fine of SGD 2,000 in Singapore for his involvement in a rival gang-inspired brawl, at a hotel situated along the popular Orchard Road tourist district which resulted in the death of one individual.
The 25-year-old accused on Tuesday, admitted his guilt to a single charge of intentionally causing harm to Mohammad Isrrat Mohd Ismail, who succumbed to his injuries following the violent confrontation that took place at a hotel in 2023, according to a report by The Straits Times newspaper.
Nair pleaded guilty to additional offenses and received a sentence of 12 months and eight weeks in prison.
Among them is another Indian-origin man, Asvain Pachan Pillai Sukumaran, 29, who is facing a murder charge for allegedly killing Isrrat.
According to Deputy Public Prosecutor Kathy Chu, the two groups involved in the altercation were associated with rival secret societies.
The brawl has resulted in charges being brought against more than 10 men for their suspected participation.
