HYDERABAD: The Consulate of India in Chicago in the US responded to a plea to help a woman from Hyderabad who went for higher studies to the US but was found in a homeless situation. She also did not appear to be mentally sound.

“We have just come to know about the case of Syed Lulu Minhaj,” the Consulate said, asking social worker and MBT leader Amjed Ullah Khan to send her details. Amjed Ullah Khan posted a video of her urging Union external affairs minister S Jaishankar for help.
In a letter to MEA, Syeda Wahaj Fatima of Moulali in the city said her daughter Syeda Lulu Minhaj Zaidi went to pursue her Masters in Information Science from TRINE University at Detroit in US in August 2021. She was in touch with her family while she was pursuing her studies.

However, in the last two months she was not in touch with the family. It was only through two Hyderabad youth that the family found out her whereabouts.
“We came to know that my daughter is in deep depression and her entire belongings had been stolen due to which she is on the verge of starvation. She was spotted on the roads of Chicago”, Fatima said.
The family gave the contact number of social activist Mohammed Minhaj Akhter who would assist the Embassy of India in Washington and the Consulate of India in Chicago to reach out to Syeda Wahaj Fatima.
In a conversation with the Hyderabad youth in a video, the 37-year-old Syeda Wahaj Fatima appeared incoherent. In her visa documents, it shows that she was issued a visa on August 13, 2021.
The Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday said a grievance had been registered on the Madad portal and was forwarded to the Mission for necessary action.
