Elon Musk backs Indian-origin physician Dr Kulvinder Kaur Gill for speaking against Canadian government’s Covid policies

NEW DELHI: Elon Musk defended on Sunday defended immunologist and pediatrician Dr Kulvinder Kaur Gill for criticising the Canadian government on ‘Covid lockdown efforts and vaccination mandates’.
In a post, Xnews defended Dr Gill saying, ” is a practicing physician in Canada, specializing in immunology and pediatrics. Because she spoke out publicly on Twitter (now X) in opposition to the Canadian and Ontario governments’ COVID lockdown efforts and vaccination mandates, she was harassed by the legacy media, censored by prior Twitter management, and subjected to investigations and disciplinary proceedings by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario that resulted in “cautions” being placed on her permanent public record.”
Then X’s owner, Elon Musk quoted the post and said, “in support of your right to speak”.
Dr Kulvinder Gill had earlier posted a donation link asking for funds to pay off her legal fees after she filed a defamation suit against the complaints that were filed against her for her remarks about the negative impact of lockdown in 2020. She had asked for help from Musk on X. With a link to her donation campaign, the doctor posted, “Hi @elonmusk@X—as one of the first (Canadian) MDs to oppose lockdowns on twitter in 2020, in a socialized healthcare system where govt is sole-payer, I’ve been persecuted for 4yrs solely d/t my tweets. Pls help a fellow Cdn! ~$300K in court-ordered costs due in 4d.”
Following the plea, X pledged $300,000 for her aid. “When Elon Musk learned earlier this week about her crowdfunding campaign to pay the judgment (https://givesendgo.com/kulvinder), he pledged to help. X will now fund the rest of Dr. Gill’s campaign so that she can pay her $300,000 judgment and her legal bills,” the post on the social media platform asserted adding that free speech must be protected.
